The renowned Singapore Design Week is evolving into a Biennale starting in 2027, aiming to elevate Singapore's profile in the international design landscape. Organized by the DesignSingapore Council, the inaugural edition will take place from May 14 to June 20, 2027, enlivening the entire city with a rich calendar of exhibitions and events. This evolution perfectly aligns with the Design Masterplan 2035, Singapore's key strategy to establish itself as a global design hub and strengthen its status as a UNESCO Creative City of Design.
La nuova Singapore Design Biennale prosegue il cammino tracciato dalle dieci edizioni della Design Week, che dal 2014 si è consolidata come un evento cardine per il settore in Asia. Il passaggio a una manifestazione biennale amplia notevolmente gli orizzonti, offrendo più tempo per ricerca e sviluppo, incentivando collaborazioni internazionali e permettendo la realizzazione di progetti più ambiziosi e innovativi. La durata prolungata, circa cinque settimane contro gli 11 giorni precedenti, e il cambiamento del periodo da settembre a maggio-giugno, mirano a una fruizione più profonda dei contenuti e a un coinvolgimento più esteso del pubblico.
The new Singapore Design Biennale continues the legacy of the ten editions of Design Week, which since 2014 has solidified its position as a cornerstone event for the design sector in Asia. The transition to a biennial format significantly broadens horizons, providing more time for research and development, fostering international collaborations, and enabling the realization of more ambitious and innovative projects. The extended duration, approximately five weeks compared to the previous 11 days, and the calendar shift from September to May-June, aim for a deeper engagement with content and a broader public participation.
