BASE Milano The Sound of Premium.
The Sound of Premium
From Tires to the City's Soundscape: Continental at Milan Design Week
At Milan Design Week 2026, amidst installations and projects questioning the relationship between technology and the environment, Continental, a leading tire manufacturer, presents The Sound of Premium at BASE Milano. This immersive experience shifts the focus of urban noise pollution from a technical issue to a perceptual one. It's an invitation to listen to the city anew and to recognize silence as a designed construct.
The installation, open from April 20th to 26th, is created by WOA Studio with the strategic support of WPP Media's Entertainment unit. It is designed as a sensory landscape where sound becomes the material and structure of space. The journey is divided into three phases – chaos, harmony, and quiet – progressively guiding the visitor from the indistinct and continuous city noise to a state of equilibrium, where silence aligns with a different quality of listening.
This project is part of a broader reflection on the transformations of the contemporary urban environment. While in the past noise was primarily linked to combustion engines, today, with the spread of electric mobility, it is the contact between tire and asphalt that largely defines the sonic landscape of cities. The Sound of Premium takes this fact as its starting point, translating it into an experience that connects sensitive perception with technological research.
The experience offers an opportunity to learn about Continental's developed solutions, such as ContiSilent and Silent Pattern technologies, designed to reduce rolling noise. They demonstrate how even the point of contact between rubber and road represents a space for design.
«Milan Design Week represents a very interesting stage for us to tell our story, and we decided to do so with an installation that expresses the deepest value of our Premium brand vision: the ability to combine innovation, safety, and well-being through high technology,» stated Giorgio Cattaneo, Head of Communication for Continental Italy. «With THE SOUND OF PREMIUM, we want to highlight a new way of living and perceiving urban silence, where the aim is not to seek the absence of noise, but rather the study and development of tools useful in reducing the continuous disturbance that we too often normalize».
