Spotify's Taste Profile Feature Empowers Users to Fine-Tune Algorithm Recommendations
Spotify is handing users more control over their listening experience. During SXSW, Gustav Söderström, co-CEO of Spotify, unveiled 'Taste Profile,' an innovative feature designed to empower users to precisely tailor their recommendations across music, audiobooks, and podcasts. Currently in its beta phase, this AI-driven tool is set to roll out to Premium subscribers in New Zealand within the next few weeks.
A brief video demonstration revealed how Spotify's Taste Profile will present a concise overview of your listening patterns, accompanied by a 'Tell us more' option. This prompt will enable users to provide feedback to the AI, specifying preferred content or opting to exclude bothersome genres from their algorithmic suggestions. Spotify also noted that Taste Profile will respond to more nuanced requests, such as needing upbeat tracks for marathon training or desiring news podcasts for daily commutes. The company emphasized that Taste Profile is entirely optional, allowing users to bypass it and continue using Spotify as they normally would.
The introduction of Taste Profile reinforces Spotify's commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities, following the launch of the 'Prompted Playlist' feature last month. Distinct from prior AI playlist functionalities, Prompted Playlist allows for highly specific requests, such as creating a playlist solely with songs from a particular television series. Similar to Taste Profile, Prompted Playlist underwent initial beta testing in New Zealand before becoming available to users in the US and Canada a month later.
