Nothing updates its AI app with semantic search and a new way to track events

Nothing has rolled out a significant update for its AI-powered app, Essential Space, enhancing its functionality with semantic search and a more intuitive way to manage events. Initially introduced on the Nothing Phone 3a in 2025, Essential Space has been praised for its ability to convert screenshots and voice recordings into actionable to-do lists and organized transcriptions.

The latest update introduces several key improvements. Essential Space can now intelligently recognize "Events," displaying them in dedicated cards that include details such as the date, time, and location. For instance, if you add a photograph of a promotional flyer for a pottery workshop, the app will automatically extract and track these event specifics, much like it handles tasks.

To streamline user experience, Nothing has also revamped the app's interface. A new "For You" page is now the primary view upon opening Essential Space, prominently featuring both Events and Tasks for quick access.

A major addition is the implementation of semantic search. This advanced search capability goes beyond simple text matching, aiming to understand the *meaning* behind your queries. This is particularly beneficial when searching for images; users can describe what they're looking for, and Essential Space will intelligently surface relevant results.

While AI-driven organization of digital content like voice notes and screenshots is becoming more common—Google offers Pixel Screenshots and Apple's iOS/iPadOS can recognize events in images—Nothing's ongoing commitment to developing Essential Space bodes well for its future relevance.

The updated Essential Space is now available on all Nothing and CMF phones from the 2025–2026 range that support the Essential Key. The app should update automatically, but users can also initiate a manual update through the Google Play Store.
