Meta Reportedly Eyes Up To 20% Workforce Reduction Amid Restructuring
Reports suggest that Meta Platforms might be on the brink of implementing one of the most significant workforce reductions in its history. The technology giant is reportedly planning to cut approximately 20 percent of its staff, though the precise date and final number of affected employees are not yet confirmed.
According to internal insights, Meta's top executives have instructed other senior leaders to begin strategizing for these potential cutbacks. When asked for comment, a company spokesperson referred to these reports as "speculative reporting about theoretical approaches," neither confirming nor denying the pending changes.
This wouldn't be Meta's first experience with major layoffs. Earlier this year, around 1,000 employees in the Reality Labs division, responsible for the company's virtual reality and metaverse endeavors, were impacted by job cuts. Before that, the company had already reduced its workforce by about five percent, following an earlier, smaller round of firings within the same year. Amid these organizational shifts, Meta has also been making substantial investments to acquire artificial intelligence startups, signaling a strategic focus on new technological frontiers.
