ByteDance has reportedly suspended the global rollout of its new AI video generator

ByteDance has reportedly halted the international launch of its new AI video generator, Seedance 2.0, following a wave of copyright infringement allegations. This decision comes just a month after the tool's debut in China prompted cease-and-desist actions from major studios like Disney and Paramount/Skydance, who raised concerns about the use of copyrighted material.

Sources familiar with the matter, as reported by The Information, indicate that ByteDance has paused Seedance 2.0's global expansion. The platform quickly drew scrutiny from Hollywood after users generated viral AI videos, including a notable clip depicting Brad Pitt fighting Tom Cruise, leading to widespread fears that copyrighted content might have been used in the model's training.

In response to the backlash, ByteDance stated in February that it is actively "taking steps to strengthen current safeguards" to prevent unauthorized use of intellectual property and celebrity likenesses by its users. The exact timeline for the tool's broader release remains uncertain.
