Anthropic Doubles Claude AI Usage Limits During Off-Peak Hours
Anthropic is implementing a temporary promotion to boost usage of its AI chatbot, Claude, during less busy times. For two weeks, from March 13 to March 27, users across most plans will receive double their standard usage limits when interacting with Claude outside of peak weekday hours.
This offer applies to users on Free, Pro, Max, and Team subscriptions. They will benefit from increased usage caps during a five-hour daily window, specifically outside the 8 AM to 2 PM ET timeframe on weekdays. Anthropic has confirmed that this enhancement is automatic and requires no user activation.
The expanded usage is available across all platforms, including Claude's web, desktop, and mobile interfaces, as well as integrated applications such as Cowork, Claude Code, Claude for Excel, and Claude for PowerPoint. While Anthropic previously ran a similar, more limited promotion in late December for specific Pro and Max subscribers, this latest initiative is broader, excluding only Enterprise users.
Although Anthropic presents this as a "small thank you" to its users, market observers suggest it may be linked to the company's recent dispute with the Department of Defense. Following Anthropic's refusal to compromise on certain AI safeguards, the company was designated a supply chain risk and lost its federal contract. Subsequently, OpenAI secured a deal with the Department of Defense, which reportedly prompted some users to switch from ChatGPT to Claude and other AI alternatives.
