Preview Tires to City Sound: Continental at Milan Design Week

At Milan Design Week 2026, amidst installations and projects examining the relationship between technology and environment, Continental, a leading tire manufacturer, presents The Sound of Premium at BASE Milano. This immersive experience shifts the focus of urban noise pollution from a technical issue to a perceptual one, inviting visitors to re-listen to the city and recognize silence as a design achievement.

The installation, open from April 20th to 26th and created by WOA Studio with strategic support from WPP Media’s Entertainment unit, is designed as a sensory landscape where sound becomes the material and structure of space. The journey unfolds in three phases – chaos, harmony, and quiet – gradually guiding visitors from the continuous, indistinct noise of the city to a state of balance, where silence equates to a different quality of listening.

This project is part of a broader reflection on the transformations of the contemporary urban environment. While in the past, noise was primarily linked to combustion engines, today, with the rise of electric mobility, the contact between tires and asphalt significantly shapes the sonic landscape of cities. The Sound of Premium uses this as its starting point, translating it into an experience that connects sensory perception with technological research.

The experience offers an opportunity to discover Continental’s developed solutions, such as ContiSilent and Silent Pattern technologies, designed to reduce rolling noise. It demonstrates how even the point of contact between rubber and road represents a space for design innovation.

“Milan Design Week is a very interesting stage for us to communicate, and we chose to do so with an installation that expresses the deepest value of our Premium brand vision: the ability to combine innovation, safety, and well-being through high technology,” stated Giorgio Cattaneo, Head of Communication for Continental Italia. “With THE SOUND OF PREMIUM, we aim to highlight a new way of experiencing and perceiving urban silence, not by seeking the absence of noise, but by focusing on the study and development of tools that reduce the continuous disturbance we too often normalize.”
