Almost a year has passed since the “Traffic Light” government concluded its term. For several of these ex-ministers, a crucial deadline expired at the end of March, officially allowing them to commence new employment opportunities.
Under German regulations, former federal ministers are obliged to declare any new professional activities to the incumbent federal government within 18 months of stepping down from office. The government can then enforce a “cooling-off period,” or Karenzzeit, which serves as a mandatory break before the former ministers are permitted to start their new roles.
