The Old Republic is gone. The Senate has been abolished. The Jedi Knights have been exterminated. Now the Emperor seeks to crush the last remaining opposition. Against the overwhelming might of the Empire stands a small but growing Rebel Alliance.
Scattered resistance groups are uniting and what is needed most now are Starfighter pilots. Will you join their struggle to end this tyranny and become a hero of the Rebellion?

Pay attention, Alpha 1. The Emperor is most displeased at the proliferation of Rebel propaganda centred around a project called “XWVM”, and has ordered the release of the following information to combat this growing threat.
The Emperor has breaking news to share with an eager galaxy.
It’s true: for those that missed the livestream on the 5th of May, we can reveal that the engine now has preliminary support for TIE Fighter, the blockbuster 1994 follow-up to the pioneering X-Wing game, thanks to the hard work of the XWVM development team.
At this stage of development, the game can be loaded and play the introductory DOS 1994 cutscene; fly the Training Simulator course; and play through Combat Chamber missions, as well as missions from Battles 1-7.
Original briefings can be played in XWVM, as well as asking officer questions.
Naturally, the support for TIE Fighter is still at a very early stage and still uses many placeholder assets created for X-Wing, but proves the capabilities of the XWVM engine in handling multiple games.
The extensible structure of XWVM enables the inclusion of new HD models for TIE Fighter craft (such as the Z-95 and Container-D), as well as seamlessly falling back to original models where available.
XWVM supports fallback to original game models where HD assets are not yet available.
Rest assured that our focus remains on completion of X-Wing within XWVM, however the integration of TIE Fighter support has already yielded benefits in the underlying architecture and extensibility of XWVM as an engine, and has been accelerated the development and integration of some features already showcased for X-Wing, such as the sidecar support and mission messages and dialogue.
In the meantime, please enjoy these screenshots of TIE Fighter within XWVM, and be sure to follow our ModDB page and join our Discord for the latest updates on progress.
