Our type of “old school” is a very different breed than the type encountered in today’s “old school”. Yes, there are similarities; We too have upped the action, speed and gore, but not to the extreme lengths seen in the new Doom game. Our levels are built for exploration, progression and environmental puzzles. These are our main qualities. Phobos is closer to games like Half-Life or Dark Forces/Jedi Knight in spirit. Just like Classic Doom, these games are types of First Person Shooters that have all but vanished. We truly are a different kind of oldschool.

Description

Having exploded your way deeper into the facility, the search for Calloway continues. Memories from the past prove to be as troubling as they are helpful. While facing ever increasing obstacles you must navigate the depths of the abandoned facilities of the FCE.

running the included batch file results in

launching doom 3 and loading tfphobos from the mod menu works fine but i get thrown back to the main menu on trying to start a new game.

fresh doom 3 install

Looks like you don't have Doom 3: RoE installed

Does your Doom 3 folder in your steam directory have the d3xp folder in it? If so it is installed.

Try adding this:

+set fs_game tfphobos +set fs_game_base d3xp

As Launch options under properties on your Doom 3 install in Steam.

Where is your tfphobos folder installed. It should be next to the d3xp folder

i fixed it by installing the GOG release instead of steams, i think my steam version is missing ROE. The d3xp folder exists but there's files missing, even after verifying the files. it's working now :) great mod ! thanks for your help !

Huh weird! I use the steam version for testing just fine. We haven't actually tested with the GOG version. I'm happy you got it to work with that :D

Try to manually set r_mode to "-1" and r_aspectRatio to "1" in tfphobos/DoomConfig.cfg

Looks like the same issue that jns. has further up the comments from here. Try and follow my instructions. If not look closely in the readme file and see if that doesn't help you.

Is it just me or..., but this mod is extremely hardware demanding. I have a 3090 and I have average 52fps at 2K resolution. I tried installing on a fresh version of Doom 3 without any success. What's the matter?

Try turning down antialiasing a bit and see if that helps.

Reply Good karma+1 vote
Alfredon
Alfredon - - 170 comments

Antialiasing is off from the start. V-sync also. If I turn on v-sync it goes down to 28-30 fps.
I have:
Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Palit RTX3090 Gamerock 24GB
Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB 5600mhz
I don't get it why is this demanding? How is on your part? How is ti for others?

jns. - - 217 comments

No issues here, 7800X3D + 7900XTX + 32GB of DDR5 6000Mhz.
FPS pegged at 60, no dips running in 2560x1440

Try setting com_preciseTic 0, I checked on another PC and this took the fps from 40-55 to a stable 62

Thanks, it works!
I put in the shortcut +seta com_PreciseTic 0 +seta com_FixedTic 1 and get 100+ fps. Great!

Had the same issue and +seta com_PreciseTic 0 bumped me up to stable 60.
Using +seta com_FixedTic 1 unlocked the framerate, but it also made the game run too fast.

I have the same problems. fps drops in hotel rooms and 3840x2160 resolution. why it drops to 40fps or lower?

Maybe you're running an external graphics mod like Sikkmod or Absolute HD, I'm running a laptop with a 4060 and Ultra graphics 8x AA activated and it runs 60+ fps perfectly.

use com_preciseTic 0 and com_fixedtic 0 through autoexec.cfg This is usually a windows 11 problem. I faced the same problem on my windows 11 notebook and it helped.

Widescreen mode does not work out of the box, had to manually set r_mode to "-1" and r_aspectRatio to "1" in tfphobos/DoomConfig.cfg. Otherwise no issues so far, congrats with the release!

I passed the silos, it reminded me of the puzzles from Redneck Rampage and Dark Forces 2, great, long live the level design of the 90's!
What an atmosphere, it keeps me going. This mod has more atmosphere than any other modern game I've played.
Is the third episode the end of the Phobos series or is there more?

I'm so glad somebody notices.
The puzzle aspect is one that is often forgotten when retro'ish games are made. It's really common that only the action part is carried over.

As for the episode question, well there is a way of finding out ;)

If take the file "pak001.pk4" from the russian translation mod, getting next error:
ERROR: file "...steamapps\common\Doom 3\tfphobos\pak002.pk4/script/phobos_main.script, line 11: file 'script/ai_monster_flying_bereftsoul.script' not found

I guess 6 year old version didn't will be work correct with EP 3.

I finished the third episode. Superbly done. Kudos to the developers. The story is very interesting. Shooting is fantastic as are the enemies. Top level design in the style of the best games of the 90's; Shootouts, then a challenging puzzle, and repeat. The environments look real as if someone really live there. The background lore is superbly done. It all ties in nicely with Doom 3 main story.
When will the final episode? I hope it will be soon, not in a few years.
Finish the story, tie everything together and you have the mod of the year for sure and one of the best mod ever made.
Thanks for Your amazing work Team Future!
