The nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island in Alaksa's Fox Archipelago is attacked and
captured by next Generation Special Forces led by members of FOX-HOUND. The terrorists have secured
hundreds of nuclear warheads and they're demanding that the government turn over the remains of Big Boss.
They warn that if their demands are not met within 24 hours, they'll launch a nuclear weapon.
Battle Gear Solid tries to recreate the first two levels if the 1998 Konami game Metal Gear Solid, cargo docks
and heliport. It started as a challenge for myself on how far SWBFII was able to being modified. After an on
and-off development period I implemented more and more mechanics and features of the original game into
the mod. This means you play in a Top Down View and will receive Codec Calls during the match at crucial
story points. Enemies have a detection zone and can spot and follow you. You will have items around the map
that you can seamlessly pick up and surveillance cameras that you need to avoid.
Solid Snake is once again called back to duty on a top-secret mission to deal with the greatest terrorist threat the world has ever seen. First, he must single-handedly infiltrate the nuclear weapons disposal site and rescue two hostages, DARPA Chief Donald Anderson and the President of ArmsTech, Kenneth Baker, and then eliminate the terrorist threat and prevent a nuclear launch. The clock is ticking. Once again, Snake heads into battle ...alone.
Your first encounter with the terrorist force is at the Cargo Dock, after you were deployed by the USS Discovery via a SDV (Swimmer Delivery Vehicle). Locate Rations, wait for the elevator, and ascend to the base exterior. Be careful not to get spotted, or the enemy soldiers will hunt for you.
The Colonel will brief you about the current status of your mission, after that you are on your own. There are two Rations to collect in this level. One is underwater behind a box near to the steps you emerged from. Another one is behind the second air filtration unit on the other side of the truncated section of the dock. There are two enemy Genome soldiers patroling the Docks. At around one minute into the mission a siren will sound, bathing the elevator area in a flashing red light. The lift is descending. After waiting for the enemy reinforcement to leave the lift you have a brief time window to enter it and get to the surface.
After receiving your next mission briefing from the Colonel, you reach the surface of Shadow Moses Island and watch as a Hind-D takes off. Locate the necessary equipment, scan your surroundings, and enter the facility through one of the two air ducts.
On the helipad you will find your first collectible item, the Chaff Grenade, useful to distubt electronic sensors, such as the ones in surveillance cameras. But the helipad is guarded by two searchlights. Getting caught in them will set off the alarm. In an open garage room you can stock up on ammunition before proceeding with your mission. Be careful of the camera and test your Chaff Grenade on it. You can use either of the two air ducts to enter the facility, but a diversion is necessary to access them.
When the original game picks up on speed, this mod ends after you've entered one of the two air ducts. The two games are very different from each other and faithfully recreating the rest of MGS is not possible in SWBFII nor was it ever intended. Therefore, ending the mod with your successful infiltration is good enough for demonstration purpose. It has been a lot of work and a lot of fun to create this mod.
Most likely the only release (except for bug fixes) of the mod. Experience the first two levels of Metal Gear Solid in SWBFII.
This is a collection of all the source files used to create the mod. Useful for modders only.
Excellent presentation and work, I look forward to trying this mod out when I next get the itch to play Battlefront and try some mods out for it!
crashes during loading for me :/ i've got 1.3 and the remaster both installed, turned off friendly fire, and other mods seem to be working fine
Could you try again? I updated the file.
there we go! went with a fresh install of the game and that seemed to fix it. really sick mod! definitely captures the feel of the original. great work pulling this off
